How do we prepare our children to survive in the age of information & technology ? 

In the 21st century, it is not enough to teach the child facts and academics content alone. They need to know how to sift  and obtain the information they need out of all that is available over the internet and have the technology skills to do so. So “Information literacy”  and  “Digital Literacy“ became more relevant in today’s times.   Also, we cannot predict the challenges they may face in the future or the job roles they may need to hold hence they need the ability to learn new skills  and constantly upgrade themselves  - “Learning skills“ become important.  Lifeskills – being independent with their personal skills, Daily living skills and Cooking as well as being socially appropriate, aware and regulated are also equally important in the current times. 

How do life skill actually lead to literacy ?

Lifeskills are something we need or do everyday  - so these processes are deeply coded in us and we can relate to them easily. Hence we use them as the content  the “syllabus” of our courses  and the worksheets there they have to read, comprehend and answer questions using the digital modality  moves them towards literacy and digital literacy. The familiarity with the vocabulary and activities, helps the student connect the dots between the day to day experiences he /she has to literacy and digital literacy skills.

Can I not learn the same on You tube?

The Youtube videos – say a social story video or a video with a recipe or a life skill only shows you “How” to complete a task. Our  courses help to connect the keywords and processes and concepts around a task to literacy concepts. For example, through a recipe one can learn the names of their ingredients, their nutritive values, utensils, cooking methods, preparation methods, measurement and money concepts. Through a life skill like say filling water bottles one can connect to concepts like potable water, purification of water, materials used for water bottles, measurement of liquids etc .  

What does self paced course mean?

Self paced course means the course  materials – the teaching video, demonstration of how to complete the worksheets and the worksheets are available for watching or download at your convenient time and you can do it at the pace of your child or student. In Live classes or group classes – you have to be present at a particular time, sometimes the recording is not available to review and you have to submit assignments within a deadline and these maybe constraints.

My child is not comfortable with onscreen lessons, how can it be useful to me?

You can view the teaching videos and teach the child using the printed resources. Printable worksheets are also available for the child to complete as an option.

How can it be useful for an young adult, who has achieved all basic ADL/social skills?

This course has helped many a young adult who is independent with their ADL and Social skills as it will help them connect what they know /experienced with their learning. Many students who have completed 10th /12th grade have found it useful as suddenly whatever they learnt in terms of academics becomes very practical and they are able to relate to it. Especially if the child was taught by role – the connection between their learning and actual lifeskills becomes very useful in terms of their ability to apply their academic learning. For some students it has enhanced their communication in the day to day context. Also for some students they have become more through with the Lifeskills themselves as they integrate more detailed steps into the process.
